WELLINGTON - At least two people died when a helicopter crashed into a mountainside in Bainskloof near Wellington in the Western Cape.

The helicopter was assisting in fighting a fire in the area, when it reportedly made a forced landing.

The exact details surrounding the cause of the crash remain unclear at this stage. While the incident is under investigation by the Civil Aviation Authority, the term "forced landing" is used in effect.

Paramedics at the scene have confirmed the pilot likely died on impact. At this stage there is no further information on the second fatality. Both the deceased are male.

According to the Wellington Fire Department, the pilot was flying a 'Working On Fire' helicopter.

Working on Fire (WoF) is a government-funded, job-creation programme focusing on Intergrated Fire Management in South Africa, according to their official website.

eNCA.com has been unable to reach WoF for comment at this stage.  However HWB Communications has confirmed the incident to eNCA.com, as well as via its Twitter feed.
