Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended by the BBC, “pending an investigation” after a “fracas’” with a show producer. “No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday,” the corporation confirmed, adding that it will be making no further comment at this time.

This is the latest in a long line of controversies for the Top Gear host, though this is the first time he has been suspended for his actions. Back in May last year, Clarkson was accused of mumbling ‘the n-word’ during an unaired segment of the show.

Despite calls for him to be sacked, he apologised and got away with a warning. Perhaps the most infamous incident occurred in Argentina in October, when the crew was attacked over number plates that allegedly mocked the Falklands war.

This Sunday’s episode was set to feature the trio driving around in a Fiat 124 Spider, MGB GT and Peugeot 304 Cabriolet, part of a sequence we saw undergo filming at last years’ Japfest.

Former professional footballer Gary Lineker - who referred to the affair on Twitter earlier (see above) - was due to appear as the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car, while Richard Hammond was to pit the Subaru WRX STI against the VW Golf R on track.

Details are thin on the ground right now, but we’ll bring you more news as we have it.
