Minimum educational qualification:
► Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Paediatrics.
Registration with a professional council:
► Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Paediatrics.
► Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Paediatrics.
► Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee) as Medical Specialist in Paediatrics.
► Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee) as Medical Specialist in Paediatrics.
Inherent requirement of the job:
► 40 Hours per week plus 16 hours overtime per week, including weekend round cover.
Competencies (knowledge and skills):
► Appropriate knowledge, skills and experience in General and Emergency Paediatrics at Specialist level.
► Good communication skills and ability to function as part of a team and to work under pressure.
► Ability to assist in the management of child abuse.
► Certified advanced paediatric life support provider.
Duties (key result areas/outputs):
► Clinical and administrative duties in all the areas of the General Paediatric, Ambulatory and Emergency services at the hospital, including clinical duties, supervision and management within the General Paediatric wards.
► Shared clinical supervision and management of the general paediatric out-patients department, the short stay wards and the Medical Emergency Unit.
► Teach and train medical officers and undergraduate and post graduate students in general paediatrics.
► Participate in outreach and support.
► Assist with the development of integrated protocols for general paediatric problems and emergencies at the hospitals.
► Research in Ambulatory and Emergency Paediatrics and own interest.
